NYFW Trend : Belts Dominate.

Posted in Uncategorized by modman on March 22, 2010

The original purpose of a belt was to hold up pants at the waist. Clearly, the belt has transformed from a practical tool into a stylish accessory. There were all sorts of belts on the runway in New York.. some for the practical and simple, some for the girly, some for the bold and brave, and some that were simply outrageous (in a good way!). Whatever your style, here are a few of the best of each category that may give you ideas on how to belt your blazer, coat, or your whole upper body!

Black & Simple: 3.1 Phillip Lim, Charlotte Ronson, Doo.Ri, Elie Tahari

Harness/Body Belt: Wayne, L.A.M.B., Michael Kors, Reed Krakoff

Belts with a Purpose: Betsey Johnson, Rag & Bone x2, Reed Krakoff

Thin & Pretty: Carolina Herrera, Chado Ralph Rucci, Jeremy Laing, Oscar de la Renta

“Not Your Usual” Belt: Jeremy Scott, Ohne Titel, Thakoon, Zero + Maria Cornejo

Studded, Embellished, Shiny: Victoria Beckham, Anna Sui, Preen, Diesel Black Gold

3.1 Phillip Lim

Posted in Uncategorized by modman on December 29, 2009

The New Year is almost here! What are your plans? Are you staying in with family? Or going out with friends? Hanging out at a neighborhood bar or a downtown lounge? Well, whatever your plans are, make sure to include Phillip Lim!

3.1 Phillip Lim pieces are great backdrops that can work with most anything. The three outerwear pieces are 3.1 Phillip Lim. They can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the occasion, but who doesnt want to say goodbye to 2009 and welcome in 2010 in style?

Which look fits your style best?

I tend to stick to black, greys, white, off-whites, and earth colors so these looks really did push my color usage (the pink blazer and blue oxford at least). Look I has classic elements and I added some edge with the Thakoon and jewelry pieces. The overall look is still feminine. Look II includes the on-trend sequin piece. Phillip Lim has created a great sequin tuxedo jacket and the hints of gold throughout the outfit brings the look together. For a more dressed up look, the Alexander Wang oxford is the way to go. If you want to look more casual, the Victoria Beckham Denim racer-back tank is a solid option. The winning pieces are the jewelry. The Oscar de la Renta earrings and Kimberly McDonald ring play off the color of the oxford and the sequins on the blazer. The gold tones are an added touch. Look III is all about the Shearling Gilet, the Givenchy pearls and the python Louboutins. The Veneta pants and ring along with the Fendi watch compliments the outfit perfectly. Enough said.

Dont be scared off by the labels! Although these outfits can rack up to be hundreds of dollars, there are many affordable options out there. If you like the looks, just keep the pieces in mind when you are out shopping for the after-Christmas sales. Its time to start digging through the merchandise!

Comments are always encouraged and appreciated! Which look fits your style best? If none of them really match your personal style, what would you like to see more of?
