All My Single Ladies : v1.

from The Sartorialist

One for the ladies!

Girls, be yourself. If you like to dress down, then dress down (not in sweatpants and jerseys everyday, unless you’re at a football game. Or wearing Alexander Wang). If you like to run around in heels, then more power to you. Do and wear what you want because you like it.  Not all girls are made to be as fierce as Beyonce in Jean Paul Gaultier or as “girly” as pin-up Katy Perry was advertised to be. Just as you have your own unique personality, your style should speak to who you are.

The Sartorialist is one of my favorite blogs out there. Scott (yes, we’re on a first name basis..) photographs beautiful images of not JUST clothes, but he captures the style, confidence and personality of the subject. You can get a sense of who they are as a person by how they carry themselves and the way their outfit is put together. It’s all in the details. The woman in the picture may not be strikingly beautiful at a quick first glance. Her outfit may not stand out instantly as “fashionable” because she isn’t wearing a sequin blazer or cigarette jeans. But to me, the simplicity of her outfit says more about her than if she told me about herself. Her style is purposeful and thought out.

I am in search of my own style. Trust me, it doesn’t happen overnight. And it definitely doesn’t happen just because you splurged on the hot fall trend that is thigh-high boots. Just as you are evolving, your style can be ever-changing.

The hottest fashion trend may be boyfriend blazers and statement jewelry, but that doesn’t mean that it’s for you. Be mindful of your purchases and make sure to think before you buy. Just because Vogue says so doesn’t mean anything. You have the final say.

Yves Saint Laurent’s famous words stand true, “Fashions fade, but style is eternal”.
